My Three Favorite Outdoor Spots in Greenville to Enjoy This Spring and Summer

As a personal trainer in Greenville, South Carolina, I’m always on the lookout for great outdoor spots to get active and take advantage of the beautiful weather in spring and summer. Whether you're into running, hiking, cycling, or just soaking in nature, there’s something for everyone here in our amazing city. In this blog, I'll share my top three favorite outdoor fitness spots in Greenville that you should definitely check out this season.
1. Swamp Rabbit Trail: A Cyclist's Dream and a Scenic Escape

If you’re looking to get some fresh air, enjoy scenic views, and maybe even break a sweat, the Swamp Rabbit Trail is a must-visit. This 22-mile-long trail stretches from Greenville all the way to Traveler’s Rest, and it’s a perfect route for walking, running, or cycling in Greenville.
Starting in Greenville, the trail is surrounded by greenery and passes through several notable areas. One of the highlights is Falls Park and The Commons in downtown Greenville—places where you can take a moment to relax or grab a coffee. Not far down the trail, you’ll find the Swamp Rabbit Café, a great spot to stop for a bite if you're feeling hungry. You can grab a healthy sandwich, smoothie, or some fresh pastries to fuel your ride.
As you continue northward, you’ll pass through Taylors and finally reach Traveler’s Rest, where you’ll find a fun mix of local businesses and eateries right along the trail. One spot that’s particularly well-loved is Tandem, known for its delicious crepes. But be warned—Tandem closes at 3 PM, so plan your trip accordingly if you want to grab a bite! Traveler’s Rest is a fantastic little town to explore, and the trail makes it easy to get there and back. Whether you're a cyclist or runner, the Swamp Rabbit Trail offers a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors and explore Greenville.
2. Paris Mountain State Park: A Nature Lover's Paradise

Next up is Paris Mountain State Park, a local gem for anyone who enjoys hiking, trail running, or simply spending time outdoors. Located just a few miles outside of downtown Greenville, this park is home to beautiful trails, scenic views, and the famous Lake Placid. The lake is right at the entrance of the park and offers a peaceful atmosphere where you can relax, take a swing, or watch the ducks.
For outdoor enthusiasts, Paris Mountain is a dream. The park features several trails of varying difficulty, making it a great place for both beginners and experienced hikers. Whether you’re looking for a short, easy hike or a longer, more challenging route, there’s something for everyone here. A favorite for trail runners (my husband trains here for ultramarathon races!), the Sulphur Springs Trail and Roper Mountain Loop are two of the most popular routes, with distances ranging from 1.5 to 4 miles. The trails wind through lush forests, along streams, and up to high points offering panoramic views of the surrounding area.
Here are some of the main trails at Paris Mountain State Park and their mileage:
Sulphur Springs Trail – 2.5 miles: This is one of the most popular trails for both hikers and trail runners. It winds through forests, along creeks, and offers some challenging inclines, making it perfect for those looking to break a sweat.
Roper Mountain Loop Trail – 3.3 miles: This trail provides a beautiful scenic route with a moderate level of difficulty. It offers great views and is often used by trail runners and hikers looking to cover more distance.
Brissy Ridge Trail – 2.5 miles: A moderately difficult trail that takes you along the ridge with views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a hike that’s a bit more challenging.
Lake Placid Trail – 0.8 miles: This is a short, easy trail that loops around the lake, perfect for a relaxing walk, especially if you’re just looking to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Kanuga Trail – 3.1 miles: This is one of the more difficult trails, featuring steep climbs and rewarding panoramic views at the top. It’s a great option for experienced hikers looking for a challenge.
Mountain Loop Trail – 1.7 miles: A relatively easy, scenic trail with mild inclines, it’s perfect for those who want a more relaxed hike without sacrificing the beauty of the park.
Big Loop Trail – 13 miles: For those looking for a more extensive adventure, the Big Loop combines several of the park’s trails, including the Sulphur Springs Trail, Roper Mountain Loop, and Brissy Ridge Trail, into a full 13-mile loop. This trail offers a more challenging experience with extended mileage, varied terrain, and fantastic views of Paris Mountain, making it ideal for seasoned hikers or those wanting to spend several hours exploring the park.
One of the best parts about Paris Mountain is its affordability—entrance is only $5 per person, which makes it accessible for everyone. It’s also very convenient, with plenty of parking available. If you're an active person who loves to run, hike, or just be in nature, this park should definitely be on your list.
3. Conestee Park: Bird Watching and Beautiful Trails for Everyone

Finally, one of my favorite places to unwind and enjoy nature is Conestee Park, located just south of Greenville. This park is a hidden gem for nature lovers and bird watchers. I personally love coming here to take photos of the birds and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings. The park features a variety of habitats, including wetlands and woodlands, which are perfect for spotting a wide variety of bird species.
Conestee Park has several easy-to-follow trails, making it perfect for a leisurely walk, jog, or a casual chat with a loved one. The Pond Trail (0.6 miles) and Creek Trail (1.5 miles) are two favorites for their scenic beauty and peaceful ambiance. If you're looking for a quiet spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors, this is a wonderful place to visit. Plus, the park is home to a variety of wildlife, so you're likely to see more than just birds during your visit.
Whether you’re a nature photographer, a casual walker, or someone just wanting to spend time in the fresh air, Conestee Park offers a perfect escape right near Greenville. It’s a peaceful retreat and an ideal place to slow down and reconnect with nature.
